Georgia Masters:

It's easy to start being an electrician in Georgia. Journeymen who work under an electrical contractor don't need to get their own license.

Electrical Contractors in Georgia need a license from the Construction Industry Licensing Board, Division of Electrical Contractors. Applicants need four years of qualifying experience under licensed contractors doing contracting work, and three references from people with knowledge of their work. A certificate showing completion of a vocational/technical school program or copy of a diploma in Engineering Technology or related electrical field is also required.

The Exams are open book, with about 160 multiple choice questions. It is taken in two four hour sessions. When the application is submitted and approved, the applicant will receive permission to take the exam. To prepare, use the Georgia 2014 Master Electrician Study Guide, available at Brown Technical Publications.

Contractors that take contracts for low-voltage wiring require a restricted low-voltage license. Forms and applications are available on the website (below).
