State Electrical Licensing Requirements
Texas regulates and licenses both electrical contractors and electrical craft professionals at the journeyman and master electrician level. While local municipalities and counties may require a license and/or fee to perform work, they cannot require an examination in addition to the state electrician examination.

Reciprocity
Texas offers reciprocity for master electricians with Louisiana (state contractor’s license) and North Carolina (master electrician or unlimited electrical contractor).
Reciprocity exists for journeyman electricians with the following states:
- Arkansas
- Idaho
- Montana
- Nebraska
- New Mexico
- Oklahoma
- South Dakota
- Wyoming
